Here is the mailbox that inspired this blog. It was in Columbus, Ohio, on Dublin Road north of Trabue Road - no longer accepting mail, as a new cousin stands across the road. Send in your pictures of rusty mailboxes to join it!

RM #2252

Joe Bumgardner found this one enroute to Bluff Lake, Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge, Mississippi.  This is our first RM from Mississippi!

Joe says, "The blue dot is light reflective and lets the paper deliverer know which mailboxes have subscribed to their paper and when alternate deliverers substitute for the regular paper deliverer, he knows exactly which mail boxes are eligible to receive a paper."

I find this interesting; the way I understand U.S.P.S. regulations only actual mail is supposed to be placed in mailboxes.  That is why you see separate newspaper receptacles along with the mailboxes.

Thanks, Joe!
